Star Wars: 10 Game-Changing Theories For Episode VIII

6. Finn€™'s Past Will Become Important

Everyone's talking about Rey and her past, especially given that the film closed on her finding Luke Skywalker. But what if Abrams knew that such an ending would get us talking about Rey in great detail, so used it to hide the fact that it€™s actually a different character€™s past that will become important in Episode VIII?

Don't forget about Finn €“ could there be more to him than meets the eye? As the only Stormtrooper we€™ve ever seen break rank on screen, he€™s an utterly unique creation. What made him do this? Was it really just his personal reluctance to kill innocent people, or could there be a grander scheme at play here?

First Order Stormtroopers, The Force Awakens tell us, are trained from birth to be compliant. John Boyega is 23 years old. Would one dead teammate smearing blood on your helmet really be enough to undo 23 years of mental conditioning? The more I think about it, the more it seems a little anachronistic.

If Rian Johnson wanted to expand on this part of the story, perhaps Episode VIII could reveal that someone within the First Order wanted Finn to go rogue and weaned him out of his compliance deliberately. Maybe they did this because they secretly sympathise with the Resistance and knew he was the perfect man to switch sides and make a difference. A mole deeply embedded within the First Order would certainly make for an interesting story angle for Episode VIII, wouldn€™t it?
