While one could certainly debate the appeal of an elaborate battle in which one contender is a CGI Yoda, the event is undeniably significant, and hugely climactic within the Star Wars canon.

It is an epic battle, grand in scale between the two central figureheads of opposing ideologies; two masters of contrasting disciplines, displaying all their skill and power in a death-battle where one wrong move could spell the end. Laser blades clash, senate seats are hurled with the magic of dark wizardry, lightning is blasted from evil hands, and the chamber left in ruins.

It’s darkness versus light, and in this case, darkness wins. Palpatine triumphs over the final obstacle on his path to galactic domination. In a symbolic display Yoda falls from the heights of the senate chamber, now in ruins around him. He flees, retreating to exile, and leaving Darth Sidious to rule over his new Empire. The villain's cackles echo from above, as he enjoys his victory.
