Star Wars: 10 Massive Plot Holes The Sequels Stupidly Created

6. Did The Rebels Actually Win The War?

Return Of The Jedi, supposedly the final film of the franchise for a number of years, ended triumphantly, with our heroes celebrating victories big and small on the forest moon of Endor as the galaxy at large erupted with glee, happy that the evil Empire had finally fallen to its knees.

Except... did it? While the destruction of the Second Death Star and the apparent death of Emperor Sheev Palpatine technically marked the end of the Empire, its outposts continued to thrive after the end of the Galactic Civil War, eventually gathering enough strength to become a potent military and political force of its own, the First Order.

The New Republic's reign was so short lived, in fact, that it was simply a blip or footnote in the history of the galaxy before being obliterated by this new Order, which proceeded to pick up where the old Empire left off.

Even though the Rebels did indeed defeat the figurehead of the Empire, can this defeat really be classed as a victory when it is clear that the new Senate was seemingly disinterested in ridding the galaxy of individuals who kept the ideology of the Empire alive?

It seems that the New Republic let the old Empire roost itself back to strength in the background, and the Sequels never give audiences any indication of what our old heroes had been doing to truly and utterly vanquish this shadowy foe.
