Star Wars: 10 Massive Plot Holes The Sequels Stupidly Created
7. Why Even Bother With A Droid Army?
As well as expanding the Star Wars universe in numerous other ways, the brilliant Clone Wars TV show made one thing clear: it is very, very expensive to maintain a droid army.
Given this great cost, and the rather ineffectual nature of droid soldiers (which can easily, easily be deprogrammed or just sliced through by Jedi or more advanced troops), it's surprising that the Separatist Army ever considered a droid army in the first place.
The Sequel Trilogy questions this logic even further, as the First Order proceeds to train legions of kidnapped children to form the backbone of their army. Even without actually having to pay these slave soldiers, presumably the cost of maintaining and feeding organic beings would be far higher than the production of identikit, not too technologically advanced, droids.
The First Order, rising from the ashes of the Empire and operating for the first few years of its existence in the shadows, would presumably have had quite a few resource problems, especially when compared to the near-infinite wealth of the Separatists considering their allegiance with the banking clan.
If it was easier and cheaper to find better soldiers than completely disposable droids, this begs the question: why did the Separatists even bother with a droid army at all? The adoption of a flesh-and-bone army after the creation of the Empire demonstrates that, out of all the options for beefing the military, droids were probably the worst of all.
