Star Wars: 10 Massive Plot Holes The Sequels Stupidly Created

2. What Happened To Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber?

One of the biggest enigmas introduced in the mystery box-fuelled Force Awakens was that of Luke and Anakin's lightsaber, which was last seen falling from the sky into nothingness at the end of The Empire Strikes Back.

This mystery was, in true Disney Star Wars fashion, swept away by a simple throwaway line, as Maz Kanata helpfully declared that that's "a good question, for another time."

Safe to say that this "other time" never actually came about, and the mystery of Luke's lightsaber was not brought up again at all throughout the Sequel Trilogy. The iconic prop was even casually tossed away by the old Jedi master on Ach-To as though it was yesterday's newspaper, rather than a heavily-symbolic weapon he hadn't seen in thirty-odd years.

If the lightsaber was so easy to retrieve from the surface of Bespin, why did Luke opt to construct an entirely new weapon instead of his old one?

Maybe Luke Skywalker just got used to misplacing his lightsabers over the years -- after all, his iconic green blade is only seen in flashbacks in the Sequels.
