3. Darth Bane
Darth Bane was the sole surviving member of the Sith Empire following the Jedi-Sith War. He saw the fall of the Sith as an opportunity to ensure that their near-destruction would never happen again, and thus created The Rule of Two. This permitted only two Sith to exist at once; a Master and an Apprentice.
Having served in the Sith Army, Bane saw how infighting had almost led the Sith to destroy themselves, before the Jedi would have had the chance. Bane's plans for the downfall of the Jedi, through the use of trickery and manipulation, were eventually realised by Darth Sidious, around a thousand years after Bane's death.
His wisdom as a Sith Lord was unparalleled, and a dark spectre of Bane taunted Master Yoda during the Clone Wars on the planet Moraband, showcasing how Bane had potentially unlocked the secrets of immortality.
A formidable warrior, as a result of his experience during the Jedi-Sith War, and skilled in the use of the Dark Side, Darth Bane was a truly fearsome Sith Lord.
