8. Qui-Gon Jinn
The apprentice of Count Dooku, Jinn was exposed to the politics within the Jedi Order, and this led to his disillusionment with the Council, and although he was invited to serve on the Council he declined.
Jinn was a remarkable Jedi, and took an enormous interest in the Living Force, hence his green lightsaber and his position as a Jedi Consular. Jinn was unorthodox in his practice of Jedi teachings, and exposed his Padawan, Obi-Wan, to many alternatives to fighting. Highly intelligent, he always saw himself as acting in accordance with the will of the Force.
Qui-Gon became the first Jedi in one-thousand years to face a Sith warrior, after Darth Maul revealed himself to the Jedi on Tatooine. An intelligent warrior, and a cunning Master, Qui-Gon laid the foundations for Obi-Wan to train the Chosen One.
He was also the first Jedi to discover the secrets of immortality, revealing himself to Yoda as a disembodied spectral voice, and also attempting to stop Anakin Skywalker from slaughtering a village of Tusken Raiders.
