Star Wars: 10 Most Powerful Sith Lords

1. Palpatine/Darth Sidious - The Galaxy Conqueror

Although it’s only suggested in the films, the books revealed that the apprentice who killed Plagueis – but crucially also taught them all of his death-defying powers – was indeed Palpatine, meaning the future Emperor had all the knowledge that made his master so mighty, but also, as seen across the original six episodes, the power to pull off a millennium-in-the-making galactic coup.

He manipulated the Republic into war, blinded the Jedi to their impending destruction, created Anakin Skywalker (again, confirmed out of the films) and positioned himself as Emperor. On every conceivable level – Force adeptness (he had a higher midi-chlorian count than Yoda), galactic ruling, personal impact - he was the most powerful and successful Sith.

He also managed to use the Rule of Two in the most successful manner, with a trail of apprentices-cum-stooges who fell right into his plan and, despite plotting against him, never succeeded in overthrowing their master. In fact, his defeat only came when his final apprentice, Darth Vader, chose to forsake out of the love for his son. It’s a defeat, but one from the inherent weaknesses of the Sith’s lack of compassion rather than a lack of power.
