Star Wars: 10 Most Ruthless Imperial Officers

9. Admiral Motti

Smug, pompous, and out of his depth, Admiral Conan Motti was a prime example of the Empire's belief that they could never be overthrown.

A high-ranking general and chief of the Imperial Navy, Motti was one of the numerous officers stationed on the Death Star before the Battle of Yavin. Present at Grand Moff Tarkin's conference in A New Hope, Motti displayed his pride and unhesitant devotion to the Empire and its new battle station.

Believing himself to be above his peers, but still deeply loyal to Tarkin, Motti was even brave enough to challenge Darth Vader. Doubting 'The Force' and declaring Vader's faith in it to be misplaced, the Admiral soon found himself on the receiving end of the Dark Lord's powers.

Force choking him for his insolence, Vader was commanded to release Motti by the overseeing Tarkin, but this action wasn't enough to deter the Admiral's ruthless devotion to his cause.

Present and supportive during Tarkin's decision to destroy Alderaan whilst interrogating Princess Leia, Motti clearly demonstrated that he was not an officer who was simply 'following orders'. Allowing the Empire's actions to go unchallenged and undisciplined, Motti's relentless and egotistical nature made him a dangerous foe.

Still on-board the Death Star during the Rebel Assault, Motti was one of the officers who believed that the station was invincible. Luke Skywalker and the Force quickly proved this otherwise, and the Admiral and his peers were killed in the Death Star's destruction.
