8. Commanding Officer Hess

Memorably appearing in The Mandalorian Season Two episode 'The Believer', Valin Hess was the former commanding officer of ex-Imperial sharpshooter Migs Mayfeld.

Originally serving the Empire during the Galactic Civil War and later with the Imperial Remnant, Hess was infamous for his role in Operation Cinder - a last-ditch Imperial plan to regain control. Whilst serving under Hess, Mayfeld observed his entire Stormtrooper division wiped out by the unperturbed officer.

No longer able to fight back against the rebellion on the mining world of Burnin Konn, Hess ordered the destruction of the entire city - including his own soldiers. Barely making it out of the carnage alive, Mayfeld held a vendetta against his commanding officer.

Infiltrating a secure compound on Morak, Din Djarin and Mayfeld were interrupted by Hess, who wanted to congratulate them for their service - unaware that they weren't the Imperial Drivers they claimed to be.

An Imperial zealot, Hess preached the Empire's totalitarian, fascist views until the end.

After discussing his actions on Burnin Konn with pride, and celebrating outliving those he sacrificed, Hess met his fate through the barrel of Mayfeld's blaster. With the mission jeopardised, Mayfeld was at least content that he had 'outlived' his former leader.
