Quite a substantial amount of mystery surrounds the Sith, the ancient enemies of the Jedi, as they were believed to have died out centuries before The Phantom Menace. Little did the Jedi know, the Sith were biding their time and practicing the Rule of Two, where only a Sith master and apprentice exist at any given time. For the primary antagonists in Star Wars, it is rather surprising not much is known about their origins and way of life. In recent years the Expanded Universe has opened the doors to the history of Sith, revealing the origin of the Rule of Two and how the Sith operated on such a small scale. A standalone movie could bring these origins to life, showing audiences how the Sith fell from power and into obscurity. It could also focus on Palpatines own rise to power before Phantom Menace as he trained under Darth Plagueis and planned his well-thought out revenge against the Jedi Order, though a character like Palpatine is better left mysterious than fully explained. Much like Yodas film, theres an extraordinary amount of room the filmmakers can play with as they can jump to any point in time.
