Star Wars: 10 Reasons Return Of The Jedi Isn't As Perfect As You Remember
9. Jabba’s Palace Scene
Jabba’s Palace scene at the start of the movie is pretty entertaining, and is definitely evocative of the kind of Sunday morning escapism Lucas was going for when he first conceived of Star Wars. We get a botched escape, a pretty nifty action sequence on a barge, and even, for no reason at all, a decidedly un-Star Wars musical number.
So far, so entertaining, but the problem is that it doesn’t really add anything to the movie. A half-hour set piece, Jabba’s Palace Scene is nothing more than a time filler which does little to contribute to the actual plot. Not only does it trail off inconsequentially, it serves as an easy excuse to sweep aside Boba Fett, a character who would have been better employed in a Western-style shoot-off with Han later in the movie.
But hey, at least the scene gave us some cool action figures.
