Star Wars: 10 Reasons Return Of The Jedi Isn't As Perfect As You Remember
8. Did Someone Say Chemistry?
As out of place as Jabba’s Palace scene is, it provided some genuine moments of entertainment as all the series’ heroes came together to achieve a common goal. It was a joy to see Lando, Luke, Leia and Han all interacting, and C-3P0 and R2-D2 even got some well-deserved limelight - but then, the band was unceremoniously broken up.
One of the biggest criticisms thrown at The Last Jedi was that all its main characters were split up, draining the film of the banter and chemistry which made The Force Awakens so entertaining.
But the Original Trilogy was pulling the same poor trick decades ago, as the main characters are torn apart, spending the second half of the movie in different places. Luke returns to Dagobah to ‘complete his training’ (begging the question of what he spent the last three years doing), before rejoining the crew briefly for Star Wars’ strangest scene and disappearing again to save the galaxy.
While Han and Leia remain on Endor, their chemistry isn’t as sharp as it had been in previous films. Hell, they could have at least put Lando on the ground with Han and Leia to introduce some extra tension.
