Star Wars: 10 Things Rogue One Did Best

1. Binding The Galaxy Together

On top of everything else it had to achieve like proving the viability of Star Wars anthology movies and, you know, actually being good; Rogue One was in the position of being the bridge between the two biggest eras of Star Wars. And although it bumps up right against the Original Trilogy, it ends up tying everything together.

In Rogue One, every film and television element of Star Wars (the canon ones at any rate) pre-Force Awakens comes together. Along with the obvious connections to the Original Trilogy; we get actors and characters from the Prequels, The Clone Wars, and Rebels brought together in one place for the first time. Even the Hammerhead Corvette that plays a pivotal role in the movie first appeared and continues to appear in Rebels.

For the first time in the movies; the hierarchy of canon status from the pre-Disney era is gone, and we really get the sense of everything existing on the same level. It will probably all get junked again in thirty years’ time when there is so much new material that Lucasfilm can’t produce anything set around the Original Trilogy but, for now, Star Wars is one (mostly) coherent story. And it’s Rogue One that finally cemented it as that.
