Star Wars: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Darth Vader's Suit

5. Magnetic Boots Allow Him To Cling To Surfaces

Vader's suit is full of all sorts of tricks and special abilities, including blaster-resistant armour plating, respiratory controls, optical magnification, and a Skittles dispenser. Okay, maybe not that last one.

But one of its coolest and most unknown features has to be the strong, voice-activated magnets built into the boots. The soles of these boots housed a ferromagnetic core - which could be activated and deactivated with a simple verbal command - capable of creating a powerful magnetic field that allowed Vader to cling to surfaces that he would otherwise have trouble standing on.

These boots can be seen in action in Star Wars Rebels' season two finale, during which Vader arrives (rather theatrically) at the planet Malachor atop his TIE starfighter.

What. A. Badass.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
