Star Wars: 10 Things You Need To Know About Rogue One

10. It€™s A Prequel, Jim, But Not As We Know It

Uttering the words €˜Star Wars€™ and €˜prequel€™ in the same sentence is bound send a few shivers up your spine. The last thing most fans want is more love-themed dialogue about sand, galactic trade blockades and goofy Gungans stepping in poop. Thankfully, it seems like Rogue One doesn€™t include any of those things. This is the first Star Wars feature film not to centre on the Skywalker family. Instead of the space opera offerings of the seven €˜Episode€™ films that has graced cinemas sporadically since 1977, this one€™s simply labelled €˜A Star Wars Story.€™ Whichever term you prefer, the meaning is simple €“ this isn€™t the main series, but a spin-off that will focus in on a tiny under-explored area away from the core plot. It doesn't even sound like there will be lightsabers or use of the Force at all. It'll essentially be an expansion of the key line from A New Hope€™s opening crawl: €œRebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire€™s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR.€ Reports have suggested that the €˜spies€™ played by the core cast may not be fully-fledged Rebels, but a gang of bounty hunters hired to sneak in and nab the plans while the Alliance partake in a larger battle, distracting the enemy. Other think that the plans will be stolen by Rebels, with a band of bounty hunters tasked to hunt them down afterwards. Either way, Rogue One is looking like a heist movie, which would bring the Star Wars franchise into a whole new genre altogether.
