Star Wars fans had grown accustomed to Leia being the less gifted Skywalker of the saga. Sure, in the Force Awakens and Return of the Jedi, it was implied she could use the force in some capacity But The Last Jedi took the boldest decision yet to show Leia using the power for the first ever time in one of the most intense scenes of the entire movie.

Moments after Kylo Ren had bottled bumping off his mother, First Order bombers nearly do the job for him. They destroy a large chunk of the Resistance’s ship and Leia is sucked into space, leading to fans to fear that would be Fisher’s final scene in Star Wars history. However, she then proceeds to sensationally guide herself back to safety, in an act that led to comparisons to Mary Poppins. Many were critical, ridiculing the way it was handled.

Yet its reasoning is obvious. Sure, her ability been kept in darkness this whole time, yet that is not to say that she would not have any. She is the daughter of Darth Vader, sister of Luke Skywalker and the mother of Kylo Ren. So why wouldn’t she have force powers of her own?

Sport and Film. I love them both. And I'm extremely lucky to write about two of my biggest passions in life. Most of the time, I'm at the Daily Express newspaper writing about football, tennis and F1. But, when I'm out of there, I let my imagination run wild and pen down my thoughts on the film series' I love. WhatCulture gives me the chance to write about the movie industry - an industry I really care about. And for that, I'm extremely grateful. And hope you, if you're reading this, enjoy what I think about stuff.
