Star Wars: 10 Ways The Last Jedi Gets Better On Second Watch
6. Revenge Of The Sith Parallels
Say what you want about George Lucas’ prequel trilogy, Revenge of the Sith is quite a movie. And, though Hayden Christensen’s acting leaves much to be desired, the final film of Anakin Skywalker’s origin story brings one of the sagas most memorable scenes, when he destroys his marriage to Padme with one strong choke.
Now, Reylo isn't necessarily a thing, but The Last Jedi manages to beautifully mirror SOME of the scenes between Christensen and Natalie Portman’s characters. Some of the camera shots eerily mirror Lucas’ work, while the looks they give each other during their force connection scenes do the same. But nothing is more Revenge of the Sith-esque than Kylo and Rey’s epic scene that follows their fight with Snoke’s Praetorian Guards.
Kylo begs Rey to rule the galaxy with him, 12 years after Anakin did the same with Padme. It has the same effect, too, with Ben Solo’s desperation identical to Darth Vader’s and, ultimately, Rey reacts the exact same way as the former Queen of Naboo. When The Last Jedi was released, this scene stood out. But now, knowing how much it mirrors Revenge of the Sith, it makes it great to watch again.
