Star Wars: 10 Ways The New Films Could Improve The Prequels

10. Bridge The Gap Better Using Rogue One And Han Solo

The Star Wars prequels stopped a long way short of the original trilogy, in terms of timeline. Luke and Leia were only infants when the films ended, and Vader hadn€™t yet been sent back into action. Audiences saw very little of what the early days of Imperial oppression looked like. Now, Lucasfilm can use movies like Rogue One and Han Solo to remedy this and tie the whole franchise closer together. The prequels still count, but the whole franchise could be improved by fleshing out the ground that they missed. In particular, I€™d like to see Rogue One explore Leia€™s home world of Alderaan. This planet was destroyed in A New Hope, but never shown in the prequels. Rogue One could fix that, and retroactively make the planet€™s destruction more meaningful. If the rumours of Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin popping up in Rogue One are true, the film could also help establish what the internal workings of the Empire were like. If the movie shows Imperial underlings living in fear of Darth Vader, it could go some way to remedying the demystifying of Vader achieved by the prequels. Additionally, the upcoming young Han Solo movie could showcase the criminal underworld in the days of the Empire. Fans were given a glimpse of this in the original trilogy, but the prequels never furthered the underbelly of the Imperially ruled galaxy looked like. By showing some seedy locales and characters in Han Solo, Lucasfilm could rebuild the cool of the galaxy far, far away and improve upon the world that the prequels left behind.
