Star Wars: 10 Ways The New Films Could Improve The Prequels

9. Reuse The Technology In Cooler Ways

Chuck Wendig€™s Star Wars: Aftermath novel (set between Return Of The Jedi and The Force Awakens) found an ingenious way to improve upon the Star Wars prequels. Wendig introduced a droid called Mr Bones; a grumpy, fierce and protective servant of the main character. He was funny, handy in a fight, and made from parts of an old Battle Droid. Making a character this likeable from parts left over from the prequels was an inspired idea, and one that the new Star Wars movies could learn from. There was lots of cool technology in the prequels, and the new films could legitimise these concepts by recycling them into cool new ones. They could do this through another bad-ass droid comprised of prequel-era tech, or something else entirely. For example, what if some of the machines glimpsed in the background on Jakku actually are old Podracers, not unlike the ones that fans saw on Tatooine in The Phantom Menace? This sci-fi racing contest was one of the cooler ideas from the prequels, and it€™d be highly entertaining to see this concept dusted off and reused in a later movie. It€™d be a neat way to nod towards what George Lucas did, and hopefully could even improve upon it.
