Star Wars: 15 Show-Stealing Side Characters Who Shaped The Galaxy
7. Qui-Gon Jinn
Qui-Gon Jinn could arguably be the one individual responsible for the entire Star Wars saga as we know it. Not only was he the master to Obi-Wan Kenobi, but the one who discovered Anakin Skywalker and the Force potential he had within. Without Jinn's quick stop over at Tatooine, the galaxy may have turned out quite differently.
The best part about Qui-Gon Jinn is his devotion to the Jedi Order while pushing the boundaries. He knows the rules but chooses to see how far he can go for the greater good without compromising the foundation. It didn't matter to Jinn that he already had apprentice; he felt it was necessary to take on a second because of his veiled belief in an ancient Jedi prophecy.
Shaping The Franchise
Qui-Gon Jinn would play a pivotal role in shaping his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kenobi would inherit a number of his masters traits after his death, including a strong headed approach to defying the Jedi Council. Much of what fans see in Obi-Wan through the rest of the franchise, is a reflection of his former master.
Throughout The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon Jinn allowed fans to see what it meant to be a hot shot Jedi Knight. His legacy would live on through Obi-Wan down to Anakin Skywalker with the way situations were handled.
As a fan, it's interesting to ponder what could have been had Qui-Gon survived and gone on to be Anakin's master.
