2. Selling Out to Uncle Walt
However, all said above, the true the definition of a sell out is someone who does just that: they sell out. Whether it's your soul to Satan for record sales or your life's work to Disney for the whopping total of $4.5 Billion dollars. Yes, George Lucas, this fiercely independent filmmaker sold out. He sold out a long long time ago. Just ask Howard the Duck. But that's not the point. The point here is that an imaginative man used his creativity to bring immeasurable joy to millions of people. Star Wars, the whole thing, all it ever was, and all it ever will be to come is thanks to Lucas. As he got older he passed the torch onto Mickey and there's nothing wrong with that. Lucas couldn't go on keeping the series alive forever. Not only that he dedicated most of the profits made off Disney's purchase to reforming American education, which is much more important than how good or bad a film was anyways. So taking the good along with the bad, we all look up to and admire George Lucas.
