Star Wars: 4 Reasons Why Rumoured Boba Fett Retcon Is A Bad Idea

1. It's A Retcon For Its Own Sake

2196716-bobafett As I've pointed out, the Boba Fett we saw in the Original Trilogy wasn't exactly the supreme badass that fans make him out to be and both the Prequels and the Expanded Universe helped to give a lot more depth. Which is why killing him and completely resetting his character won't benefit the character or the film in way. This retcon is utterly pointless. All it is are Disney and Lawrence Kasdan saying "We don't like this indisputably canon plot development so we're going to try and find a way to change it to suit our personal tastes". It's the purest form of fanw*nk except this time it isn't harmless fanfic, it's the actual stories and characters being changed. A perfectly good Boba Fett film can and should be made without cutting out and revising great swathes of the character's backstory. And if Kasdan doesn't like the clone backstory, he can just not bring it up in the film and focus on what's happening the present. We don't need such a massive retcon and it can only serve to harm the character and seriously lower fan goodwill towards Disney. Boba Fett's story has been told. We know the circumstances of his creation, how he grew up, and his adult life. Disney should accept what exists and use it to tell the new story. To quote Jim Henson (who, interestingly, was the first choice to play Yoda) "Take what you've got and fly with it". And speaking of Yoda, God only knows what Disney are planning for that spin-off. What do you think of this rumoured retcon? Let us know in the comments section below...
