4. Is C3PO Gay?
Has any robot in the history of science fiction ever caused so much furore over it's sexuality than C3PO? Describing C3PO as an 'it' should show you where we stand on this debate. As a robot - not a human being - C3PO is neither male nor female so compltely incapable of having sexual desires for another robot of the same 'sex'. OK, C3PO has been given a male persona allowing for people to refer to it as 'him' but that doesn't mean if 'he' tried to get R2D2 into bed it would make 'him' gay. This hasn't stopped countless debates erupting online however. One typical comment from his Wikipedia page reads:
"If he was human he would live in the Castro district of 'Frisco. That's (sic) how gay he would be"
Any references to his sexuality are frequently removed from Wikipedia but it hasn't prevented the C3PO page being vandalised with sexual slurs every now and then. The only other character who seems to get as much abuse as C3PO is Chewbacca. Go figure. It is true that Anthony Daniels - the actor who portrays the fabulous golden robot - is a homosexual and the character is played with tongue firmly in cheek however there is no real way to measure how gay a robot is we're afraid and if you ask us there's probably never going to be a more satisfactory response than that.
