Star Wars: 50 Greatest Moments - Ranked

34. Windu Vs Sidious (Revenge Of The Sith)

Star Wars Mace Windu Samuel L Jackson
Lucasfilm

As you'd expect for a Jedi played by Samuel L. Jackson, Mace Windu is a total badass. He wields a purple lightsaber, and has mastered a fighting style that allows him to channel the Dark Side without succumbing to it.

He gets to display his badassery in Episode II, against Jango Fett, and it gets even better in the next instalment - unfortunately, it comes in the same scene he dies (or doesn't, as Jackson loves to keep on telling us).

Whatever his status, his battle with Darth Sidious is a masterful one. First up, there's the long-awaited confirmation that Palpatine and Sidious are one and the same, before the real battle begins. Windu seemingly has him beaten, but then Anakin emerges and makes the game-changing save. Palpatine uses Force lightning to the point of irrevocably deforming himself, Windu 'dies', and Anakin fully turns to the Dark Side, being anointed as Darth Vader.
