Star Wars: 50 Greatest Moments - Ranked

33. Silence (The Last Jedi)

The Last Jedi Leia Holdo
Lucasfilm

Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Holdo is a divisive character in an even more divisive movie, but what shouldn’t be too hotly debated is that her big moment is absolutely epic.

Holdo steps up to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to allow the Resistance to escape to Crait, and pilots the ship straight into the Star Destroyer at light speed, with the movie (and ideally, the whole cinema) being in complete silence.

It’s an awesome piece of filmmaking, an important final sacrifice to push the movie into its final stages, and deserves your silence.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
