Star Wars: 50 Greatest Moments - Ranked

9. The Cantina (Star Wars)

Star Wars A New Hope Greedo Dead Han Solo
Disney

Return Of The Jedi gave us Jabba's Palace. The Force Awakens had Maz's Castle. The Last Jedi will feature new casino planet, Canto Bight.

There's a reason Star Wars films keep featuring the caverns of weirdos - because the original was so damn good. Mos Eisley Cantina, the most wretched hive of scum and villainy, is one of the strangest, most delightful settings in the original film.

Soundtracked by the uplifting space-jazz of Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes, it's a joyous assembling of all manner of weird and wonderful creatures from across the galaxy. There was drinking, fighting, and one of the most iconic - and later, controversial - Han Solo scenes in the franchise, as he sits down for a chat with Greedo and shoots him dead (*before* he himself can be shot).

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
