Star Wars: 50 Greatest Moments - Ranked

46. Vader And The Bounty Hunters (The Empire Strikes Back)

Empire Bounty Hunters

Many of the characters we meet in this scene never appear again in a Star Wars movie, and yet each has gone on to become firm a fan-favourite, from Bossk to Dengar to the towering droid figure that is IG-88.

A collection of bounty hunters brought in by Darth Vader, there's an instant allure to these characters; visually arresting, obvious badasses, and ripe with antihero potential.

This is best witnessed through Boba Fett, with this scene - and Vader's "no disintegrations" warning - helping to turn him into one of the most iconic figures of the entire franchise. Admiral Piett may not have wanted their scum around, but we certainly did.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
