Star Wars: 7 Epic Moments That Were Utterly Ruined By The Prequels

4. Luke Loses His Hand - The Empire Strikes BackHand Cut Off Even before Vader tells Luke that they just so happen to share some DNA, the scene of Luke and Vader dueling in Cloud City has a fair share of surprises. Chief among them is the moment that Vader slices Luke's arm off, defying audience expectations that the good guys aren't supposed be the ones who lose their arms. The questions that immediately arise were startling - how would our hero survive with only one arm? Would he be able to duel again? What about his penmanship? But then, these answers were already all answered in the prequels, robbing the scene of its dramatic impact. Once we'd all seen Attack of the Clones, we knew that that sort of limb-chopping happens all the time, and in fact, the exact same thing happened to Anakin. We know there's the technology to instantly replace an arm with an infallible robotic replacement that will compromise no use or skill. So, when Luke loses the arm three films later, it doesn't really seem to matter all that much, and the escalating tension of the Cloud City duel wouldn't feel nearly so desperate.
