Star Wars: 7 Epic Moments That Were Utterly Ruined By The Prequels

3. "No. I Am Your Father." - The Empire Strikes Back

darth-vader The big one. Aside from being the most misquoted movie line in the history of ever, Luke's paternity was the most game-changing plot twist in the original trilogy. Darth Vader reveals the terrible truth to Luke after Forcefully throwing chunks of Cloud City at him, besting him in a lightsaber duel (complete with some impressive cape-billowing), and chopping his hand off. Logically, neither we nor Luke should be putting a lot of stock in anything that Vader says, but for that chilling moment, we all trusted him infinitely, and the shock impact is what boosts The Empire Strikes Back from great to unforgettable and changes everything in the Star Wars saga with a single line of dialogue. Unless, of course, you watched Revenge of the Sith first, in which case, the scene is just a chance to laugh at how another member of the Skywalker family yells "Nooooooooooooo!" rather than appreciate one of the most memorable moments in movie history. But then, if you were Dutch, you probably knew all along: since "vader" famously translates to "father." There's also that. At least "Darth" doesn't mean "Luke's."
