With that, we now move on to the hard canon. And the distinction of being the first character from a canon Star Wars animated series to make the jump to live-action belongs to Saw Gerrera.

Voiced by Andrew Kishino, Saw was introduced during Season 5 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2012. Hailing from Onderon, Saw was the leader of a small group of rebels fighting back against the Separatist occupation of the planet -- a rebellion that was later led by his sister, Steela Gerrera.

Saw made his live-action debut in the 2016 anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in which he was played by Forest Whitaker. By this point in the timeline, Saw -- now fighting against the Galactic Empire -- was the leader of his own cell of rebels based on Jedha, having been exiled from the mainstream Rebel Alliance for his extreme methods. Saw and his rebels met their demise when the Empire's Death Star upon the desert moon.

Shortly after Rogue One hit cinemas in December of 2016, Saw's history with the Rebel Alliance was further explored in the animated series Star Wars Rebels, which takes place several years beforehand. Whitaker reprised the role for Rebels Seasons 3 and 4, later playing the character again in the 2019 video game Jedi: Fallen Order.
