Star Wars: 7 Perfect Performances & 7 That Sucked
5. Anthony Daniels As C-3PO (Perfect!)
The voice, the movements, the comedic timing - all perfect! Anthony Daniels has appeared as C-3PO in a total of ten Star Wars films (more than any other actor) and has nailed his performance of the character in each and every one.
Although his face may be hidden and his body encased in golden metal, that doesn't take anything away from how successfully Daniels brings this droid to life. Star Wars was actually Daniels' first major role in a film after being educated in theatre and initially not being a fan of the Sci-Fi genre. The pressure was on Daniels with a lot of the opening act of A New Hope hinging on his performance as the campy droid.
Whether he's bickering with his counterpart, R2-D2, being shouted at by Han Solo, or even being carried around in pieces on Chewbacca's back, Daniels manages to be humorous, heartfelt and entertaining. It is worth mentioning that a large majority of Daniels’ screen time is shared with a dustbin on wheels who communicates in a series of beeps.
Despite that, and the fact that Daniels himself was trapped in a metal suit the entire time, his performance does not suffer in the slightest. In fact, it is largely down to Daniels’ interactions with R2-D2 that sell him as such a real character.
