No group of creatures shook the Star Wars universe more than the Yuuzhan Vong. Although theyre strictly an Expanded Universe creation, never mentioned or referenced in the canon of the films, their inclusion as the ancient fear would fit perfectly. The Yuuzhan Vong are a humanoid alien species that invaded our favourite galaxy far, far away, ultimately being responsible for the death of over 350-trillion sentient life forms. Think Mass Effect meets Star Wars. Their goal was to terraform the entire galaxy while destroying all forms of technology in the process. What made the Yuuzhan Vong such a terrifying enemy was that they were beings that appeared to live outside of the limits of the Force, making them all but invisible to Luke Skywalker and the rest of his Jedi Order. They would be an impeccable, fresh enemy to introduce in Episode VII and beyond. It is even referenced in the Expanded Universe that the sole purpose of Emperor Palpatine creating a massive galactic war machine was in preparation for these destructive aliens. And any group that can terrify the great Sith Lord into such fearful actions is an ancient fear we should all want to see depicted on the big screen. What do you think the Ancient Fear is?
