What We Know

7. Snoke Needed A Humanity To Him

Standing at around nine feet tall, there isn’t much human about Supreme Leader Snoke. You can garner from his numerous battle wounds and scars that he has been involved in battle but his height, creepy sullen eyes and force powers make him a far cry from your average joe. How many people do you see like that walking down the street?

But, thanks to Industrial Light and Magic VFX supervisor Ben Morris, we’ve learned that a lot of care went into creating his character. For somebody with so little screen time, you can forgive Rian Johnson for wanting to focus on bigger issues at hand. Yet Snoke, it seems, was integral and needed a human aspect added.

George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels were often criticised for their use of CGI - particularly when it comes to poor Jar Jar Binks. but Morris says Johnson was determined to make Snoke as interesting as possible.

“There was no question Rian wanted to bring him down to the human level, and the performance needed to have that resonance,” he said. “Rian was very concerned that doing it entirely in CG was a good idea initially. I reassured him and said, ‘It’s absolutely the best way to do it.’

Sport and Film. I love them both. And I'm extremely lucky to write about two of my biggest passions in life. Most of the time, I'm at the Daily Express newspaper writing about football, tennis and F1. But, when I'm out of there, I let my imagination run wild and pen down my thoughts on the film series' I love. WhatCulture gives me the chance to write about the movie industry - an industry I really care about. And for that, I'm extremely grateful. And hope you, if you're reading this, enjoy what I think about stuff.
