Star Wars: 9 Lightsabers You Didn't Know Exist (And What They Mean)

You know it's about more than just the blue, green and red... right?

Star Wars Obscure Lightsabers

There isn't a film franchise with a universe as expansive as the one from Star Wars. It's been built up through years of films, literature - both comics and otherwise - and video games. And if that wasn't confusing enough already, the original expanded canon was wiped from the slate in 2012, with Disney deciding it was better to start their era with a clean slate than with decades' worth of continuity to stumble through.

While the Mouse House's decision has proven successful, especially in curtailing the more indulgent elements of the old expanded universe (now dubbed 'Legends'), one thing that hasn't been spotlighted as heavily has been the diversity in lightsabers seen across the galaxy far, far away.

The old canon boasted dozens of different variants on the iconic weapon, divesting heavily from the most recognisable colours and providing all sorts of variants in between - for better or for worse.

But one thing Star Wars fans may not know is that, even in the new canon, there exists an array of unique blades the movies haven't really touched. There are different coloured blades and different kinds of sabers altogether, and - maybe unsurprisingly - they all mean something...
