Star Wars: 9 Reasons The Special Editions Are Secretly Better

8. The Max Rebo Band Sound Like A Proper Sleazy Bar Band Now

Originally, the band playing at Jabba€™s club in Return Of The Jedi play a piece of funk-pop fluff. It€™s like something Parliament/Funkadelic would toss off at 4.50pm on a Friday afternoon when George Clinton was off sick and all they really wanted to do was get down to the pub. It€™s a bit lightweight. It€™s not really the kind of thing you€™d be likely to hear at the kind of establishment where rubbish dancers get fed to the rancor. In the re-edited version, though, the Rebo band have had the kind of aural makeover not witnessed since Dee Dee Ramone€™s blessedly brief foray into rap under the moniker Dee Dee King. There€™s also what sounds like an electric harmonica wailing all over the place, coating the scene in a kind of authentically rich, musty odour more appropriate to a dank, sordid drinking hole.
