Star Wars: 9 Reasons The Special Editions Are Secretly Better

7. The Titles Shoot Off Screen Quicker, Leaving More Time For Star Wars

One of the great thrills of Star Wars is that moment when you're suddenly greeted with arguably the most recognisable and beloved opening titles sequences in all of cinema. One second you're staring at a blank screen and then BAM: STAR WARS HERE'S THE THEME MUSIC OH WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A GREAT TIME. Who€™d bother messing around with such a solid opening? There€™s no room to fit in any gratuitous CGI aliens as far as I can see, nor any sound effects to fanny about with unnecessarily. Well, good old George is nothing if not an innovator, and rather than doing what everyone expected and leaving the thing alone, he decided to nip about a second and a half from the whole sequence. That buys us all a vital second and a half which would otherwise have been spent just staring into the gloom of space rather than glorying in the warm glow of the greatest story ever told. Plus, you know, we€™re all hurtling towards the grave at alarming velocity and we€™ve all got stuff we need to do before then, so any odds and ends of spare time we can cobble together into an afternoon€™s work on the garden or a trip to Alton Towers is appreciated. Thanks, George!
