Star Wars: 9 Things About The Last Jedi That Make No Sense
6. Yoda Controls The Weather
There's nothing Yoda can't do. From squaring off against beings three times his size with a lightsaber, to Force-lifting X-Wings from the Dagobah swamp... and now controlling the weather from beyond the grave can be added to that list.
The pint-sized Jedi master returns to former student Luke in Force ghost form to council him during his hour of need in The Last Jedi. It's a fan-pleasing scene that highlights what it means to fail as a teacher, but it also makes no sense.
During the sequence, ghostly Yoda summons a bolt of lightning to lay waste to a sacred Jedi tree which houses the order's ancient texts. Luke comes to an important realisation about focusing on the present, while the audience was left wondering whether Force ghosts are more powerful than past Star Wars films have let on.
There is no precedent for Force ghosts controlling the weather. They usually just offer a few words of wisdom before disappearing and the big revelation about these elemental skills only begs the question of why they never used them before. The good guys could really have used a few bolts of lightning from above while the Empire was up to its old tricks in the original trilogy.
