As is evidenced extensively in the Star Wars: The Art Of The Force Awakens tie-in book, J.J. Abrams Star Wars Episode VII went through one hell of a concept-development phase. Before they settled on Kylo Ren, Rey, Jakku and all the rest, the team at Lucasfilm had spit-balled a ridiculously huge amount of ideas. Kylo wasnt always in it, potential cameos from previous Star Wars stars were suggested, and even the planets and spaceships underwent several iterations of existence. And although the finished Force Awakens film came out pretty darn well (despite a few criticisms of it being too familiar), there are loads of great ideas that got left behind. Prepare yourself for some scary baddies, intriguing locations and unique vehicles, then, because here are ten unused The Force Awakens concepts that really need to be revisited at some point
9. Jedi Killer
Before they had idea to make Kylo Ren/Ben Solo the immediate threat of The Force Awakens, Lucasfilms concept artists were tasked with drawing up some potential baddies to trouble the galaxy. Iain McCaig came up with this great design for a character called Jedi Killer, which resembles a cross between a monstrous Hellboy-esque alien and a long haired weapon-wielding samurai. This Jedi Killer concept was gradually moulded into a masked Darth Vader fanatic over months of pre-production fiddling, which eventually lead to the inception of Kylo Ren. However, theres definitely something memorable in that striking red physique and the mysterious moniker Jedi Killer. If Lucasfilm want to resurrect this idea, its easy to imagine Jedi Killer slotting into a future film as a despicable warrior hell-bent on destroying the remnants of the Jedi Order. No one knows his true name, and his motivation is equally indiscernible. Maybe hes something of an urban legend (since there aren't many Jedi left), and Luke Skywalker is the last name on his list of targets. Jedi Killer could make a great side-villain for Episode VIII, serving to distract the good guys, allowing The First Order to amass power once again in time for Episode IX. Wouldnt you love to see Rey battling a monstrous foe like this?
