1. He Likes Details. A Lot Of Details
Abrams loves mysteries, but he also loves digging deep into those mysteries and seeing what's going on underneath, whether it's the origins of the black smoke in Lost, or showing us in very close-up terms what Cloverfield's monster looks like. He appears to love exploring mysteries despite rarely providing a satisfying explanation, and with Star Wars, the problem is that we already know too much about it. George Lucas made the fatal mistake of probing into his mythology far too deeply in the new trilogy, particularly when he explained the Force rather awkwardly as being midichlorians, intelligent life-forms that live within the cells of all living things. Did we need to know this? It proved above all else that a lot of the time, it's better
not to know the little details. As Abrams loves to immerse himself in the smaller details at the end of the road, he's going to want to probably do this with Star Wars too, and when the possibilities therein aren't too savoury (courtesy of Lucas), we're not too optimistic Abrams will be able to do much better. Again, though, hopefully Michael Ardnt will be able to reign his excesses in and keep control of the script. That's it for a healthy dose of Star Wars cynicism. Do you think J.J. Abrams can pull it off? Or will he pull a Lucas? Let us know in the comments below.
