Star Wars Episode 7: 5 Reasons Disney Is The Best Thing That Could Happen To the Franchise

4. The Originals Resurgent

Greedo shooting first, the CGI Max Rebo band, an Australian Boba Fett; the changes made to the original trilogy have become some of the most ridiculed moments in the history of the saga. Consistently ridiculed, the enhanced versions of the films certainly aren't popular. Aside from the obvious, rather cosmetic changes, the tone of vast sections of the films has been altered thanks to the endless tinkering. In the original, the entry to Mos Eisley in Star Wars (not A New Hope) is a quick speed in, creating the feeling of scum and villainy through suggestion and the lack of regular citizens. In the special editions, we have multiple, almost entirely CGI shots full of silly aliens and repeated shots of Luke€™s speeder that serve no purpose; clearly Lucas wanted to make Mos Eisley more like Phantom Menace€™s Mos Espa, but in doing so he cost the town its slimy integrity. This is one example of a minor, unnecessary change having a big impact, but the trilogy (in particular IV and VI) are full of them. And we have been forced to swallow them thanks to George Lucas blocking the release of the original due to his incredibly flawed ideology that €˜new is always better€™ (a thought shared only by Barney Stinson). Now under new control, we should finally get to see these in a fully restored, but unaltered form on a superior format. Disney always seem good at providing good, comprehensive DVD releases so this is one welcome development we can expect soon.
