Star Wars Episode 7: 5 Reasons To Stop Bashing George Lucas

3. The Original Films Still Exist

When I was short-sightedly ranting about the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney on Facebook, one of my old classmates called me out for being such a whining git and pointed out that even if the new trilogy turns out to be a pile of complete and utter Bantha Poodoo, the rest of the Star Wars universe will still be there for me to enjoy for as long as I want. And he€™s right. For every Force Unleashed 2 that gets released, there€™s a Knights Of The Old Republic to go back to. When I watched internet reviewer Iron Liz€™s review of the third edition of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, I was annoyed to find out that one of her big problems was the prequels retconning some of the novels. The novels still exist and given that it€™s fiction and completely inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, you can just pretend that the retcons don€™t exist and interpret the canon you choose it. The same logic goes for the films. Even if you hate the prequels, you can ignore them and just watch the Original Trilogy. Oh, and I€™m not going into any of the Special Edition stuff here but there are DVDs available featuring the original cinematic cuts. Problem solved.
