Star Wars: Episode 8: Everything We Know So Far

4. We'll Get To See Han Solo's Funeral

One of the worst things about The Force Awakens was how quickly the characters moved on from Han's death. Yes, there was a battle to fight, but once that battle had ended, Han wasn't given a second thought. If felt unceremonious, particularly for the franchise's most beloved character.

Fortunately, Episode 8 looks set to rectify this mistake, and will reportedly feature a scene showing Han Solo's funeral - according to General Leia herself, Carrie Fisher.

Speaking on-stage at Star Wars Celebration Europe earlier this year, the actress accidentally began with "Han's funeral...", when she seemingly misunderstood the question directed at her by host Warwick Davis (skip to 8:20 in the video to watch it).

Hopefully she means that the funeral will take place during Episode 8, and not in-between movies!

If we do get to see it, this moment will allow the fans, as well as the characters, to pay tribute to a legend, and will provide a much-needed moment of reflection and emotional resonance in and around all the explosions, laser guns and planet-destroying machines.

Let's just hope it's not a brief, 30-second pan across a coffin...

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
