6. The Skywalker Legacy

Episode IX is, ultimately, all about the Skywalkers. That's what this whole saga is about too, of course, and it's all coming to an end. While IX needs to push forward the stories of all the new characters, it also needs to do so in a way that gives a satisfying conclusion to the galaxy's most famous and powerful family.

That's why both Mark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher will be back, so given how this is ending the saga, it might be fitting to have the family's name in their last ever movie. Few words are as synonymous with Star Wars as 'Skywalker' after all, and this movie is going to be about exploring what their legacy is.

That means honouring them, but also moving beyond them too. It still fits with the idea of hope, and that anyone can be a hero no matter their origins, while telling you that this really is the conclusion of it all. It's also still got a vague enough hint about it that it can have multiple interpretations within the film - the legacy of Anakin is different to that of Luke, which is different to that of Leia and to Ben and so on - while its most obvious meaning will appeal to the hearts of fans.
