Star Wars Episode 9 Trailer Breakdown: 16 Things You Need To See
4. Leia & Rey's Moment
After her passing in 2016, seeing Carrie Fisher on screen - especially in the role of Leia Organa - is never not going to be emotional. Even if Fisher were alive today, this shot would be designed to be poignant, but with the added real world weight behind it, it becomes even more powerful an image.
Calling back to their moment in The Force Awakens (and indeed, actually from an alternate take of that, with some digital changes for the setting), it's yet another reminder of how much they've been through, and their shared losses. Leia is the last mentor figure Rey has left; for Leia, Rey is now the closest thing she has to a child.
It's such a shame that we aren't getting the full Leia movie this might once have been, but it still looks like the re-purposed footage will allow for some beautiful, tender moments with the character, made even more powerful by Luke's voiceover: "We will always be with you."
