Star Wars Episode IX: 10 Directors Who Could Replace Colin Trevorrow

2. Rian Johnson

Why He Should Direct: Rian Johnson is, of course, the director of the upcoming The Last Jedi, and there seems to be overwhelming confidence from within Disney and Lucasfilm that he's delivered an excellent follow-up to The Force Awakens.

Given that Johnson recently stated on Twitter that he'd make another Star Wars film "in a heartbeat", and he has nothing on his upcoming slate, this just makes a lot of sense.

Plus, with Johnson having not only directed but also written The Last Jedi, he can probably help smooth out Episode IX's scripting issues if he's hired for it.

How Likely Is It?: Johnson is easily the safest bet on this list, and early reports suggest that he's in fact at the top of Kennedy's shortlist to take the gig.

Unless The Last Jedi is some sort of secret mess, everything feels right for this to happen. 9/10
