Star Wars Episode IX: 10 Directors Who Could Replace Colin Trevorrow

1. Brad Bird

Why He Should Direct: Brad Bird has proven himself an accomplished director in both animation and live-action, helming classics such as The Iron Giant and The Incredibles, not to mention the superb Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

Bird proved with the latter movie that he can pull off scintillating, over-the-top action sequences with sure panache, and it's easy to imagine his visual imagination slotting perfectly into the Star Wars universe.

How Likely Is It?: Bird will be busy with The Incredibles 2 until next summer, which could make production tight for Episode IX, even with the likely delay to December 2019.

Plus, the director's last movie, Tomorrowland, bombing with critics and audiences, and being his first foray into live-action sci-fi no less, might frighten Kennedy from giving him the gig.

He's one of the more natural fits for Episode IX on paper, but his schedule and previous failure do hold him back somewhat. 6/10
