Star Wars: Episode VIII - 16 Biggest Rumours You Need To Know (July 2nd)
11. Could Mace Windu Return?
For most characters in the Star Wars universe, dead is dead. There are of course exceptions, thanks to the presence of Force Ghosts, but actual revivals from death are conspicuous by their absence.
That might change, if Samuel L Jackson has anything to do with it, as he spoke to fans on Twitter (via Entertainment Weekly) to deny that Mace Windu is dead. Asked if he was alive, he said the following:
“Of course he is! Jedi can fall from amazing distances. And there’s a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?... George is like, ‘I’m okay with that. You can be alive.’”
So will we see an older, battle-worn version of Windu appearing in the new trilogy?
Rating: 2/10
Don't count on it. Jackson can want to see Mace Windu until he's blue in the face, but that doesn't mean it's ever going to actually happen.
Reviving him would rob the Emperor of one of his most villainous moments and biggest shows of power, and going back to the Prequels too consciously would be a mistake. Plus Windu would be a grand old age by the time Episode VIII comes around, and it's hard to imagine there'd be much narrative value in him even appearing.
