Star Wars: Episode VIII - 8 Things Fans Want (But Won't Get)
6. A Han Solo Funeral Sequence
Han Solo's death was arguably the most shocking moment inherent to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and yet it was brushed over far too quickly to make any real impact. For one of the most iconic characters in all of cinema, you'd expect a little more than a few shots of people looking sad. All that The Force Awakens gave fans was a shot of Chewbacca looking weepy, and Leia and Rey sharing a brief and random hug. The problem with the lack of fuss over Han's death is that audiences weren't given an appropriate scene in which to mourn him; he was alive, then he was dead, and then the story was moving forwards without granting you the time they needed to process what had happened to everyone's favourite scruffy-looking nerf herder. Which means that it would be great if Episode VIII found a way to deliver the Han Solo funeral sequence that he deserves. Thing is, said scene really belonged in Episode VII, when the impact of the death could be felt right away. Years later, when Episode VIII comes out, a funeral won't likely have anywhere near as much resonance - not to mention that Rey is off with Luke Skywalker, and so wouldn't likely be able to attend. Despite the fact that it's desperately needed, there's a good chance that Episode VIII won't bother to make room for memorialising Han Solo. Which is a real shame.
