Star Wars: Episode VIII - Predicting The Entire Plot In 11 Steps
10. Rey's Nightmare
We cut to Rey, some time after the events of Episode VII, who manoeuvres through an old temple, until she stumbles upon a cloaked figure waiting for her in the darkness. "Master?" she asks, only for the figure to turn around and reveals himself to be Kylo Ren, clad in his iconic mask. He ignites his unstable lightsaber, which reveals that there are bodies of dead children scattered everywhere. Rey is suddenly surrounded by the Knights of Ren. Kylo lunges at her with his lightsaber, but Rey ducks and escapes. She races through the temple until she spots... Han Solo! "This way, kid!" he yells, beckoning her towards the Millennium Falcon. As she darts towards him, though, Kylo Ren steps out of nowhere and stabs Han through the heart with his lightsaber. "Han!" Rey screams. Han falls, dead. As she cries, Rey is caught and constrained by the Knights of Ren. Kylo walks over and removes his helmet. He grins at her menacingly, sporting a new facial scar he acquired during his fight with Rey on Starkiller Base. "I gave you a chance," he tells her. "You turned me down." Manically, Kylo lifts his lightsaber blade slowly towards Rey's face and.... Rey wakes up in a cold sweat. Just a dream. She looks around. She's in a small room. She looks over at a table in the corner and sees Luke's lightsaber. Notes: Opening the movie with a dream sequence would provide Episode VIII the opportunity to explore some more of the backstory that was missing in Episode VII without compromising the fact that Star Wars doesn't do "flashbacks" in the traditional sense (nor do the movies ever incorporate a non-linear approach). Also, this would give the movie a place to insert Harrison Ford, who - according to Kathleen Kennedy - is set to return.
